– How We Tutor – Free Initial Assessment – Together We Find the Right Tutor for You

We listen before we advise a tailored session plan

First we determine what help is needed to achieve the desired outcomes, then select a tutor to meet your specific needs and tailor tuition based on these options:

  • 1 hour per week per subject – Hourly sessions are mainly used at Primary level or if a tutee feels the 1.5 hour session is too much.
  • 1.5 hours per week per subject – We’ve found this to be the optimum formula for successful tuition, and it suits most students’ busy schedules.
  • 2 hours per week per subject – If starting tuition from January onwards, or if your child is really lacking confidence, we’d consider this more intensive programme.

Built around weekly sessions

Tuition with us is built around weekly sessions to maximize learning and commitment:

  • Homework Assignments – An hour’s homework will usually be set per subject per week. This amount may be varied to suit the student’s workload.
  • Exam-focused tuition – Past papers are a key element of our exam-focused tutoring technique.
  • Flexible – We fully appreciate that sometimes you may need to move or miss a session, and here of course we are flexible: your tutor will try to re-arrange a time to suit you.
  • Charges  – The charges are inclusive and we guarantee the price for the duration of your tuition.
  • No advance payments – You will be invoiced directly after each session – never in advance.
  • QS Subject Tutors  –     All the Qualifications Scotland (formerly SQA) subjects are normally available, early reservation is advised.

Which tutoring option is best for you? Online or in-home?

Our experience shows that while traditional in-home tutoring has long been the preferred option, online tuition offers a range of additional benefits. Although some families were initially hesitant—particularly due to mixed experiences with school-led group classes during lockdowns—most parents and students now actively choose online learning.

With today’s advanced meeting technology, online tutoring provides access to a wider set of interactive tools than a traditional classroom. Many of our tutors also report that students often find online sessions feel more natural and help them maintain focus more easily.

Whichever format suits your student best, we offer both in-home and online one-to-one tuition, and we’ll work with you to determine the most effective approach for your situation. If you’d like to explore this topic further, you can download our straightforward guide outlining the pros and cons of online tutoring.

Flexibility and Choice

Students and parents love the ability to work whenever and wherever with no disruption to family members and in an environment and a location that they choose to allow maximum concentration.

Tutor physical location becomes irrelevant in your choice of tutor. Online tuition widens the pool of tutor choice massively and means you have better access to the best tutor and the one that is right for your needs, rather than only the tutors who live close by.

Functional

Whatever the mainstream meeting tech you prefer to use, online sessions will deliver a one-to-one tutoring experience where you can easily focus, exchange files, work on past papers, write and review whiteboards, record the session and much more.

Safe and Secure

There are no time-consuming travel issues involved, no concerns about Covid or other personal security issues. All our online tutors are required to adhere to the same stringent Code of Practice.

You have complete control over the tutoring environment, and you can even arrange with your tutor to record sessions. Some users agree this is a great benefit for revision as well as ensuring your peace of mind.

Special Educational Requirements

If your child requires special education, we have capable tutors who have experience in the practice of tutoring students in a way that addresses their differences, disabilities, and special educational needs. Our tutors can support SEN children with Dyslexia, ADHD, and others. Call 01315161811 or message using the contact form below. The absolute best decision!!
We cannot recommend Edinburgh Tutors highly enough!

During the spring break, and at very short notice, we contacted Alicja hoping to find young, knowledgeable tutors who genuinely love teaching and can pass that enthusiasm for learning on to their students. Alicja was incredibly helpful from the very beginning. She recommended several excellent tutors, sent us their CVs so we could make our own choice, and also gave us honest, thoughtful guidance about who she felt would be the best match for our daughter.

The results have been absolutely incredible. After just five weeks of intensive tutoring, our daughter went from an F in Higher Maths to an A, from a C in Higher Chemistry to an A, and from a C in Higher English to an A!

We are completely overjoyed and so grateful to Alicja and the wonderful tutors she matched us with. They did not simply teach the subjects—they helped our daughter gain confidence, understand the material and realise what she was capable of achieving.

Even when it feels as though there is not enough time left before the exams, do not give up. If you have a child who is willing to learn, Edinburgh Tutors will work incredibly hard to find the right tutor and the right match for them.

Thank you so much, Alicja. What you and your tutors achieved in such a short time was truly remarkable!

Andrea instilled confidence in Math
Andrea instilled the confidence and knowledge in maths to help both my kids achieve grades they needed for their next steps in education. Andrea helped keep the kids engaged and interested in learning and the office team made it easy for us to select the tutor and do the admin.

Scotland Tutors were a brilliant support to my daughter during her Highers. They arranged a Modern Studies tutor who was patient, knowledgable and understanding. He really improved her approach, spent time to increase her understanding and reduced her stress levels massively. She went into the exam feeling calm and confident. I highly recommend this company.

Douglas at Edinburgh Tutors has been an excellent tutor for my son studying NAT 5 physics. His follow up email after the sessions let us know exactly what has been covered and what he will do at the next session and he has also been great at providing extra work for my son to complete in between. I would highly recommend him and Edinburgh Tutors.

Very professional tutoring; excellent administration of payments. I can’t recommend them highly enough. Our son has dyslexia and tutoring has brought on his English skills to allow him to pass Nat 5. Maths tutoring for higher maths was excellent too. Included advice and tips for exam preparation and scoring maximum points in exam environment.

My son failed his Nat 5 physics prelim, so I looked for a tutor through Glasgow Tutors. We received a selection of CV's very promptly, and together we chose Ella Morgan from the selection that we were given. Ella worked over Zoom and Teams with my son, and was always reliable and prompt. She was able to develop a good relationship with him and he never complained about a lesson. I got helpful reports after each session, and the method for paying the company was hassle free. We found out yesterday that he got an A in his exam, so I'm absolutely delighted and think this is 100% down to Ella's help in breaking the course down for him and checking his understanding. We'll definitely be back in touch if necessary for his Higher maths this year. Hopefully Ella has space for us after this review! Thank you, it was all a really positive experience.

Thank you to Melissa, my daughter went from getting a D in her prelim to achieving a B in her Nat 5s! My daughter said she explained more in 1 session than her teacher had in a few months. Highly recommended Melissa.
