Tuition Subjects and Levels

Glasgow Tutors can offer you Tuition in all Scottish Qualifications (formerly SQA) subjects, at levels ranging from Primary to Nat5, Highers and university level. We also cover English curricula to A-level. The most sought-after tuition subjects in Glasgow and the West are Maths and  English,  Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History and Geography, follow in order of demand. European Languages are increasingly popular in Glasgow, especially (Check out Our QS Subjects here). Demand for business, related tuition, arts and all the humanities is also on the increase. As we emerge fully from the pandemic, there has been a dramatic increase in demand for primary school-level tuition in Glasgow, and in the spring of 2025 Scotland as a whole experienced similar growth in this sector.

The pandemic triggered a surge in demand and reshaped perceptions of one-to-one online tuition. While some families had disappointing experiences with school-led online learning, private online tutoring has firmly established itself. Initial hesitation has largely disappeared—over 90% of parents now opt for online sessions, with an even higher preference among tutors and their students.

We provide online and in-person one-on-one tutoring and will help you choose the best option. (Download the Pros and Cons of online tuition).

Private tutors across all exam subjects are in particularly high demand as the new exam season begins. Enquiries for the upcoming academic year are already strong in Glasgow, with many parents planning to secure the right support.

Whatever your requirements for one-to-one tuition—whether at home or online—we can match you with a dedicated tutor who has the right experience and subject expertise to help your student succeed. For personalised guidance on finding the best fit, contact Joanne Baird, our tutor services manager, for expert advice tailored to your student’s needs.

This is what our clients say

Maria is a brilliant Modern Studies tutor. I cannot recommend her enough. She has significantly improved my daughter's knowledge and ability to apply this to the subject. Superb communications at all times. Consider no one else for your tutor in this subject.

I've been really impressed with Joanne who matched an excellent tutor for Oscar. Joanne was very professional, helpful, friendly and really knew her stuff. Oscar's tutor Jessie has been amazing, she really engaged with him and got him back on track already.

I would just like to say Kirsty has been amazing with Ailie in so many ways and I can't thank you enough for matching them together. With only one hour's tuition a week, Ailie is tracked to get an A in her Nat 5 as a result of Kirsty's knowledge and teaching style, and has formed a genuine connection at a difficult time.

My son failed his Nat 5 physics prelim, so I looked for a tutor through Glasgow Tutors. We received a selection of CV's very promptly, and together we chose Ella Morgan from the selection that we were given. Ella worked over Zoom and Teams with my son, and was always reliable and prompt. She was able to develop a good relationship with him and he never complained about a lesson. I got helpful reports after each session, and the method for paying the company was hassle free. We found out yesterday that he got an A in his exam, so I'm absolutely delighted and think this is 100% down to Ella's help in breaking the course down for him and checking his understanding. We'll definitely be back in touch if necessary for his Higher maths this year. Hopefully Ella has space for us after this review! Thank you, it was all a really positive experience.

Frequently asked questions

  • Are qualified teachers automatically the best tutors?

Not necessarily — and it’s a fair question to ask. Subject knowledge matters, but so does how recently and vividly a tutor remembers being in the exam seat themselves. Some of our strongest-performing tutors are undergraduates who sat National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher only a few years ago: they know exactly which topics trip pupils up, which exam techniques actually hold up under time pressure, and they relate to a nervous or disengaged teenager as a near-peer rather than an authority figure — which often counts for more than seniority when a student has lost confidence. We don’t assume “most qualified” automatically means “best fit.” We match each Glasgow pupil — undergraduate tutor or more experienced teacher — based on subject, level and personality, not job title alone.

  • Which subjects see the most demand from Glasgow families?

Maths and English lead, followed closely by Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with growing demand for Modern Languages and Computing Science.

  • Who do I speak to about finding a Glasgow tutor?

Joanne Baird, our tutoring services expert for Glasgow and the West, handles enquiries directly and will talk you through the assessment and matching process on your first call.

The absolute best decision!!
We cannot recommend Edinburgh Tutors highly enough!

During the spring break, and at very short notice, we contacted Alicja hoping to find young, knowledgeable tutors who genuinely love teaching and can pass that enthusiasm for learning on to their students. Alicja was incredibly helpful from the very beginning. She recommended several excellent tutors, sent us their CVs so we could make our own choice, and also gave us honest, thoughtful guidance about who she felt would be the best match for our daughter.

The results have been absolutely incredible. After just five weeks of intensive tutoring, our daughter went from an F in Higher Maths to an A, from a C in Higher Chemistry to an A, and from a C in Higher English to an A!

We are completely overjoyed and so grateful to Alicja and the wonderful tutors she matched us with. They did not simply teach the subjects—they helped our daughter gain confidence, understand the material and realise what she was capable of achieving.

Even when it feels as though there is not enough time left before the exams, do not give up. If you have a child who is willing to learn, Edinburgh Tutors will work incredibly hard to find the right tutor and the right match for them.

Thank you so much, Alicja. What you and your tutors achieved in such a short time was truly remarkable!

Andrea instilled confidence in Math
Andrea instilled the confidence and knowledge in maths to help both my kids achieve grades they needed for their next steps in education. Andrea helped keep the kids engaged and interested in learning and the office team made it easy for us to select the tutor and do the admin.

Outstanding progress thanks to Edinburgh Tutors
Our grandson chose economics as a crash higher in S5.
Sadly he did very badly in his prelim exam only getting a mark in the 30s.
With just a few weeks to go we decided that a Tutor was required and contacted Edinburgh Tutors with the hope he might get a pass
Today he got his results A grade pass ! We are all delighted . Would not have happened without support from Edinburgh Tutors

Scotland Tutors were a brilliant support to my daughter during her Highers. They arranged a Modern Studies tutor who was patient, knowledgable and understanding. He really improved her approach, spent time to increase her understanding and reduced her stress levels massively. She went into the exam feeling calm and confident. I highly recommend this company.

Douglas at Edinburgh Tutors has been an excellent tutor for my son studying NAT 5 physics. His follow up email after the sessions let us know exactly what has been covered and what he will do at the next session and he has also been great at providing extra work for my son to complete in between. I would highly recommend him and Edinburgh Tutors.

Very professional tutoring; excellent administration of payments. I can’t recommend them highly enough. Our son has dyslexia and tutoring has brought on his English skills to allow him to pass Nat 5. Maths tutoring for higher maths was excellent too. Included advice and tips for exam preparation and scoring maximum points in exam environment.

Thank you to Melissa, my daughter went from getting a D in her prelim to achieving a B in her Nat 5s! My daughter said she explained more in 1 session than her teacher had in a few months. Highly recommended Melissa.
