Tuition is based on the individual needs of each pupil, and a tailored mix of the three pillars designed to meet those needs forms the basis of tuition. As a social science, Geography deals with a broad selection of concerns, introducing students to the physical and human systems of the globe, and usually including topics such as population distribution, societal differences, environmental change and human interdependence.  They are encouraged to take an interest in local, national and international affairs, developing an understanding and appreciation of the nature of world change as well as the relationship between people and their environment. It is hoped that each individual will discover a life-long interest and sympathy for issues of environmental concern, through active teaching that incorporates theoretical learning with practical activities. Investigating the world around us

By investigating the world around them, young people can be inspired but also challenged, especially as candidates are expected to interpret a variety of maps, diagrams and statistical data to draw conclusions from data sets. Key Areas of the Syllabus

Key areas of the syllabus include the Physical Environment, the Human Environment and International Issues or Environmental Interactions. In Physical Geography, students study topics such as atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and biosphere, carrying out analysis using a variety of methods including Ordnance Survey (OS) maps. Alternately, Human Geography focuses on issues such as population, industry, and urban/rural environments, increasing understanding of the patterns, processes and factors of change in human activity. Units on International Issues and Environmental Interactions aim to draw these different areas together in a global context to form a holistic perspective on the relationship between physical and human concerns, and between different parts of the world. The work of our Geography tutors is to emphasize this by encouraging students to independently seek links between different areas, developing their ability to think critically about global issues.
